Scenic Bluffs’ Dental department received a Public Health Innovator Award from the Wisconsin Department of Health Services and La Crosse County Health Department in July. The award was an acknowledgment of Scenic Bluffs’ contributions to the success of the Wisconsin Dental Pain Protocol (WDPP), which began in 2019.
The WDPP is a systemic approach implemented by Emergency Departments (ED), Urgent Care Centers (UCC), dentists and community partners to reduce opioid use for patients presenting with non-traumatic dental pain. The WDPP provides the evidence-based diagnosis, treatment and care management of oral pain and infection necessary to provide the highest standard of care and optimize ED and UCC staff time and resources. The WDPP also establishes partnerships and referral systems within communities to assure that patients presenting with dental pain receive definitive care for the cause of their pain.1
Scenic Bluffs is proud to be a partner in reducing opioid usage in our region and providing high-quality healthcare to those in our communities. Dental services are offered at Scenic Bluffs in Cashton (238 Front Street) and La Crosse (2030 7th Street S). In August, we expanded our La Crosse dental practice to offer full-time hours and will further expand our services in La Crosse next summer.
