What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is used to address specific health problems, as well as to strengthen the entire body. Acupuncture is based on the theory of "Qi" (pronounced chee).

Qi is the energy of life that flows through all living things. In the human body, Qi flows through what are called channels or meridians, which send it to and from all parts of the body. If Qi flows smoothly throughout the body and without blockage, there is life and health. When Qi stagnates, becomes excessive or deficient, there is disease.

Acupuncture points provide the link between the internal Qi of the body and the outside world. By needling these points, we are able to affect Qi and encourage it to flow in a clear and unobstructed way.

What does it treat?

  • Neck and shoulder pain
  • Jaw, back & hip pain
  • Post-surgical pain
  • Migraine headaches
  • PMS & menstrual cramps
  • Colds & Flu
  • Asthma
  • Allergies
  • Chronic sinus conditions
  • Irritable bowel syndrome
  • Tennis elbow
  • Stress reduction
  • Lowered immunity
  • Digestive problems
  • Emotional conditions
  • Injuries

How does it work?

Tiny disposable needles are gently inserted at points corresponding to specific symptoms. Once in place, the needle is manipulated to obtain a sensation described as a feeling of heaviness, distention or achiness. This reaction indicates that the needle is affecting the body's internal energy. Many people report feeling better after the first treatment.
